SJdS - Marine community relief

$2,445 of $6,000 goal

Raised by 39 people in 4 months

As all of you know, our little gem of a town was pounded by severe onshore winds, tons of rain, and giant waves.  The beach is littered with boats.  Some will live to see another day, and others won't ever float again.  We are collecting donations in order to support cleaning up the beach which is currently the stuff of nightmares, to boat owners.  All the money collected will go to the "Comision de Apoyo y Rescate al Sector Pesca" created by different local port organizations (Navy, transporte acuatico, scuba diving school, Alcaldia) and supported by many volunteer.

100% of the donation goes to the equipment needed, food, and helping the local fishers.
.
.
Our main goals are :
•Continue the Bay Cleanup

Underwater clean up of the bay continues and needs more support.

Tons of storm debris, a dozen pangas and pieces of boats are being located, lifted and removed from the bottom of the bay by teams of divers and boat crew. Your donations provide drinking water, food and fuel to keep the salvage teams working.

Divers are working in extremely hazardous conditions with very little equipment to remove entangled debris and recover boats. The crews will not stop working until the bay is safe and the community fishing fleet is recovered. It's going to take more time.

•Supporting the small fishers and their families
So far we can count at least 40 pangas sunken and as much fishers who lost their job and way to susbatain their families.

We would like to provide them food until we help them finding a long term solution, and repair the pangas that can be fixed but the owners can't afford it.

_____You already helped us a lot, and thanks to your donations and help we :
- Hauled out of the bay 8 pangas, tons of debris (nets/lines/anchors/boat pieces)
-Put back floating 3 boats thanks to heavy equipment
- Lift couple others boats so they can fix their dammages and be back floating soon

Every little bit helps, and with everyone's generousity it will be history in no time.

Hey everyone, just wanted to drop a quick update. As many people know, the beach was cleaned up in quick fashion. Most of the rubble and debris was removed within a day or two.

We have located a small association (sort of like a co-op) of fishing families who are organizing and managing a few causes we believe in.
1. They are hiring scuba divers clean hazardous materials left behind from the boats that capsized or beached.
2. Assisting families in repairing small fishing boats used to earn a living.

We plan on posting a list of fund distributions within the next day or two.

Thanks for all of your support, every little bit helps.

Thanks so much everyone! We're well on our way. We've been speaking with coordinating with equipment operators. We hope to have them out today or tomorrow. Please keep spreading the word. We have spoken with a few families who own fishing vessels, which cannot afford to make the necessary repairs. We would love to be able to help them as well!
