Sam's campaign for CARING IN BRISTOL

Homelessness is an issue which is on the rise.  It is difficult to measure and many of those who are homeless don't appear on official statistics. However, it is estimated that there are currently 320,000 people who are homeless in the UK and this figure is rising at a rate equivalent to 36 new people becoming homeless each day. With these figures in mind, it really isn't difficult to get behind the words of the late Simon Mayhew who gave a lot to the fight against homelessness in Bristol, that   “we’re all only a few bad weeks away from being homeless.”

Bristol is no exception to these statistics and it is something that I'm constantly reminded about when I'm out. After chatting with many of the friendly homeless people in the city - which I know other students do too - it seems that there is a common perception to the problem. That despite the number of organisations and charities who are working to fight homelessness in Bristol, they feel that there isn't enough support.

On the 5th of May I'm running the Great Bristol 10k to raise money for Caring in Bristol - a charity that delivers emergency support for homeless people and rough sleepers in Bristol in addition to producing innovative projects that bring together a community of volunteers to tackle homelessness and prevent it in the first place - particularly across young people.

All donations (big or small) will go to Caring in Bristol, and all will be appreciated as every little helps. Please help me meet my target :)
