Pepper's Medical Bills

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Kimberly and I am doing this gofundme page for my sister Heather and her family.

Thursday, February 11th was like any other day until Heather went in for her normal prenatal check up. Upon checking her blood pressure, the nurse became alarmed. Heather's blood pressure was 180/134. In addition, after her urinalyses it was determined that she was spilling over ketones. That along with sudden  weight gain and water retention, the doctors were concerned. They did an ultrasound and said that the baby was only in the 4th percentile for his/her age (Pepper's gender was a surprise until birth!).

Heather was soon sent to Carteret Health Care where she was administered a magnesium drip to prevent seizures and was sent to Vidant. Heather was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia. Vidant continued giving her  magnesium and her blood pressure came down to an unalarming rate however it was still not great. The doctors at Vidant performed another ultrasound and determined that Pepper would only be in the 3rd percentile for her age. At 33 weeks, the baby was only measuring that of a 28 week old. Which was extremely scary for Heather and Blake.

After being at Vidant for three days with her blood pressure yoyoing from high to extremely high, Heather and Blake were told that she would be delivering the baby very soon. She was given a medication to soften her cervix and contractions began. The baby responded well with the labor and after about ten hours of labor she was born.

Baby Pepper came into this world blue and not moving. After a short time with the NICU team (they're amazing!) Pepper was breathing and turning pink. She is a little fighter! She weighed in at 3.5 pounds and 16 inches long.

Thankfully Pepper is doing well, however her length of stay at Vidant is still undetermined. At this point she is in a heated  Giraffe Omnibed. She will have to be able to regulate her body temperature before being able to be moved to a bassinet. Due to her early arrival, Pepper is also being fed through a feeding tube.

My hope is that through donations, Heather and Blake will be able to afford to take turns staying with Pepper until she is released as well as meet their health care deductible. At this point we are not sure how much the hospital bills will be.

Heather is a teacher and Blake is a nurse at a long term healthcare facility. Neither were expecting the joyous arrival of Pepper so early. If you can, please help. Any donation is greatly appreciated!
