Riding for Refugees

Dear friends:

We (Keith, Michael and Cigdem) are cycling up the St. Lawrence, over the rolling New Brunswick plateau, and through the Annapolis Valley from August 31 to September 9, 2019 in support of the Halifax Refugee Clinic.

The Clinic is a mighty charity near and dear to Keith, in particular – Keith worked at the Clinic in law school, and since moving to Ontario to practice refugee law, remains involved in its operations.

Our bikes will carry us nearly 1000 km from our starting point in Quebec City to our finish line in Coldbrook, Nova Scotia, but …
our trip is nothing compared to the journeys members of the refugee community have made in search of protection in Canada from persecution, torture, or death.

Every dollar you donate to our ride will directly assist the Clinic in continuing to provide important services to people who otherwise have no sponsors, no friends, and no family to help them.

This year, the Clinic is helping 212 people, and 47 are children.

We are cycling for each one of them.

With your help, we can ensure that the Clinic has the funds needed to provide life changing legal and settlement services.

The Clinic’s tireless work is truly protecting against an access to justice crisis. Without the Clinic, refugee claimants in Nova Scotia who could not afford to hire a lawyer would be forced to represent themselves in their applications for refugee status.
