#HurricanceHarvey has caused massive destruction in Texas, and Rugby Relief is gearing up to help, bringing the strength of the rugby community to help those in need.

Thousands of people will need help in the coming months in order to recover from the storm and rebuild their lives, and we are organizing the rugby community to respond! We will be mobilizing after the water recedes, and we need your help! Our rugby playing crews have all the strength, endurance, and teamwork to get the job done, but we need monetary donations to make sure our crews have the protective gear, tools, fuel, food, and water to keep them going! We will also be purchasing gift cards with these funds to help affected families get back on their feet.

If you are able to provide donations of safety gear, tools, or transportation, please contact us directly.

If you are able to volunteer, host volunteers, or if you need help, please complete the appropriate form on our website at www.rugbyrelief.org/harvey.

Let's tackle this disaster!

Thank you!

Rugby Relief has been hard at work the past several weeks. Thanks to your donations, we've been able to help clean up over 65 homes and provide assistance to countless other families affected by Hurricane Harvey.

We'd like to take a minute and share one of our homeowner's stories as told by Louis Garcia, a Rugby Relief volunteer and photographer.

"Even the simplest of chores such as doing laundry have become impossible, Carla the tenant of a townhome in Katy, TX told me while explaining how the storm was affecting her life. Carla has lived in Houston for 23 years and has never seen anything like the flooding brought on by Hurricane Harvey. She and her husband were moving in the Friday that Harvey hit and were worried that their furniture would get a wet as they were moving it into the house. Unfortunately, by Monday the water was up to their doorstep and they had to get out as there was no end in sight. They tried to call for help but the water was too high for their son to reach them until he found someone with a boat to come and rescue them. When they were finally able to return over a week later, they found that their house had been flooded with three feet of water. Despite all of this, Carla and her husband remain optimistic and are extremely grateful for all the help that they have received through Rugby Relief along with their friends and family. They plan to stay in Houston and return to a normal life as soon as they can."

We thank you all for your generous donations that have allowed us to help Carla and other families just like hers! Through your donations, we've been able to give hope back to so many that lost so much in this storm.

Over the past 4 weeks, we have helped cleanup over 62 homes with the help of over 175 volunteers! Members of 35+ rugby teams have contributed to the relief efforts, whether its through volunteering, fundraising, or donating supplies.

One of the great stories from this relief effort comes from the CyFair Warriors rugby team, a local high school team who has done incredible work to contribute to the cleanup efforts. Early on, they were working on a home when a neighbor, Mr. Lee, came out to ask if they could help remove carpet from his home. Mr. Lee is a WWII vet and he and his wife had lived in their home for over 50 years. The CyFair Warriors were able to help remove furniture, the carpet, appliances, and drywall for them. One of the parent's of a player said it was heartwarming to witness their young men and women shake Mr. Lee's hand and thank him for his service.

Thanks to your contributions, we've been able to help over 60 families like Mr. Lee and his wife!

We cannot thank them enough for providing these work spaces!! They have been vital to our coordination efforts.

The $25,000 we're raising will help fund the first 6 weeks of relief work, helping to provides tools, safety equipment, and other materials necessary to our work. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far!! The outpouring of support from across the globe has been incredible. Once again, the rugby community has proven itself to be a loyal, supportive, and committed force, willing to help when called upon.

Just a quick update on our status here on the ground! One of the Rugby Relief teammates, Chelsea Peper, and players from Houston Athletic Rugby Club began working with Declaration Church to help set up a donation center and do evacuations. Sam Houston State Rugby immediately responded to the call for help and showed up with a full side of players at the center to help unload tons of trucks full of supplies.

We've also officially set up a new HQ in Houston thanks to the Houston Strikers Rugby team, who have kindly donated the use of their main office building for us as long as we need it. From here we can collect donations, store tools and supplies, and coordinate our volunteer task force. We should soon have an HQ setup in Beaumont as well.

We've had over 150+ volunteers sign up with us the past few days! Local volunteers have started going in to the field today to assist with clean up at a few homes, but the main volunteer push will start next Friday, September 8th. You’re donations will help buy much needed tools, safety equipment and cleaning supplies for these volunteers groups to use. We also are in need of trailers to haul this equipment and generators for use in those areas still without power.

If you're interested in volunteering, visit www.rugbyrelief.org/Harvey/ to sign up. We need all the hands we can get, even if it's just for day!

Please share our campaign with your friends too and spread the rugby love! With teamwork, we know we can tackle this disaster!
