My name is Emily and I am Rosa and Nemo Cingari's daughter. I have started this gofundme page to raise money to help my parents file for a federal appeal.
Let me give you some background: My mom was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba and came to the U.S in late 1960's early 1970's. She met my father, who had come from Sicily in the 1970's, while taking english classes at Lakeland High School. Since their meeting, they have been married for 47 years. My father worked at AOC as a chemical engineer while my mother took care of me and my brother. In the mid 80's, my mother started her own tax preparation company. Her company became very successful. When my father retired, she continued her work as a tax preparer, being the sole bread winner. As a part of her company, she also did translations in order to help latinos in our community. She did all types of translations from birth certificiates, to divorce papers, petitions and asylums. In 2014, the government arrested her and my father and charged them with immigration fraud among other charges. In November, they went to trial and lost due to a neglegence defense. Both of them were convicted and sent to county jail to await sentencing.
My parents are 67 and 68, with no prior criminal background. They are currently sitting in citrus county jail until their Feb 2nd sentencing.
Due to lawyer and trial fees, my parents have used all their retirement money, and put a mortgage on their house. We have no money for an appeal. I have meet with a few appeallate lawyers who have seen errors in the way they were represented in Federal Court. They are asking for $90,000 to start the appeal process for both of them. Please help my family.
