I've been a supporter of LINK Unlimited for several years now. They are committed to excellence and seeing the youth flurish which i'm all about. On July 17th 2016 I will be running the Chicago Rock n Roll Half Marathon to raise money for LINK Unlimited but I need your help to meet my goal. Here is a little note about LINK Unlimited:
Founded in 1966, the organization has spent the last 50 years developing opportunities for growth, college success, and life-long learning for more than 2,200 scholars. Eighty-percent of LINK scholars live in single-parent homes, and all are economically disadvantaged. LINK, in huge part, works to address the prison pipeline that plagues their scholars living in low-income communities throughout Chicago, by making it possible for them to transcend stereotypes, and defy statistics through a quality high school education, mentorship, and leadership development as well as academic enrichment services.
Open to 8th graders, LINK Unlimited Scholars students exhibit strong character, good moral, high motivation and strong academic records. As a family-centered organization, scholars’ parents must be active
participants and committed to the program as well. With the donations from the annual DreamKeepers
Gala, board members and mentors, and other organization events, scholars attend 35 different tuition-based high schools in the Chicago-land area.
“Receiving excellent education should be a right for all students,” says
Blasingame-Buford. “At LINK Unlimited Scholars, we give students, who are
economically disadvantaged, a chance to shine brightly academically as
well as personally.”
