The Athens Human Rights Festival will be 38 years old in 2016. The festival is a two day event  featuring speakers and music held each year around the first weekend of May in Athens Georgia. The 2016 festival will be on April 30th. & May 1st. We close College Ave. in downtown Athens Georgia and set up a stage for people and groups to present their ideas and views on all sorts of human rights issues.  The street is open to individuals and groups to set up booths and provide the public with information they may use on issues that are important to them. The festival is a totally free event. It's like setting up a soap box on the street and giving every one who wants to be heard a chance to speak out. The festival is put on each year by volunteers who donate their time and energy to make it happen. The music is provided by bands that play for free just to be part of the festival. The cost of the festival is covered by donations from the public, the sales of festival t-shirts and by the sale of advertizing space in our festival tabloid. We have no corporate sponsors and hope to keep it that way. Your donation, what ever it is, will help us meet the cost of the festival and give the volunteers the oportunity to make it even better. The Athens Human Rights Festival is a 501(c)(3) organization.
