My name is Tosin Oke, I am an international level triple jumper, who has competed internationally for both Team GB & Nigeria. When I am not jumping into a sandpit, I am an ambassador for my local Borough - Greenwich, I visit schools on a weekly basis delivering inspirational assemblies to pupils, and I coach and mentor young Team GB athletes.
I have been in the world top 10 since 2010, and finished 7th at the London 2012 Olympics, however 7th is not the top 3, and for Rio 2016, my final Olympics, I am hoping with everyones support, I can push towards a podium finish.
The money I receive through gofundme will partially be used to cover the day-to-day costs of being an athlete; the costs do mount up, especially when the 5hrs a day I train does not allow for little more than part time work in between. More specifically it will be used for the things that make a huge difference - weekly physiotherapy & sports massage, bi-monthly trips to a sports Doctor & a nutritionist. Top of the range nutritional supplements, and month long training camps to ensure I get into the best mental and physical shape possible.
Training for the Rio Olympics started at the end of London 2012; everyday since then has been in preparation for Rio. As you can imagine, receiving donations a week before the Olympics will have little impact on my performance, although it will positively affect my frame of mind! That being the case, the earlier the better, there are 7 months until the Olympics, so every moment matters.
Being an Olympian is a truly special feat, to become an actual medallist is an even more exclusive club. Your support would be immense towards me achieving my goals and the phrase 'every little helps' is definitely true.
