Riley Hospital Nurse Appreciation & Donation

Donation protected
Our journey to Riley with our son Henry has been incredibly tough, and at the same time, we’ve had overwhelming support from family, friends— even total strangers. The care that we have received from our team here has been unbelievable. We have had a group of nurses and doctors that have gone above and beyond to make sure Henry is cared for, safe, and receiving the best care possible. We audibly hear new patients coming in by helicopter and sometimes see/hear commotion going on around us- this is ICU at one of the best pediatric hospitals around, after all.

At the same time, the top attending doctor of our floor is taking time to patiently and calmly answer our questions every day- he does not rush us and he waits until we are done. He pops his head in our door with reassurances and compassionately tells us he is so, so sorry for each curveball or setback we experience. Nurses are constantly checking in with us asking, “Is there anything we can get you? Do you have any questions? Let me know if you need anything.” They’ve gone so far as to bring Renee little treats on her birthday, dig essentials out of their own purses, help decorate Henry’s doorway, asking the night nurse to text their personal cell phone after Henry’s extubation with an update etc. all while being professional and extremely empathetic. They bring their hearts to their jobs and we feel it. They reassure us and they let us know they will be extremely direct if/when they get concerned. We could not have asked for a better place to be in some of the scariest days of our lives.

We have had many, many folks reach out to us asking how they can help or what they can do to support us during our time here. We have what we need, and have felt a tug to use this “platform” to pay it forward to Riley Hospital. If you’d like to give, we will be splitting the funds between special gifts to the nurses and doctors on our floor who have worked so diligently with us and Ronald McDonald House, the only place where we have been able to actually sleep this week. We feel that a special thank you is in order, even though each nurse and doctor would just say it’s part of their job.

Please continue to pray for our little buddy to heal and get better as well as for us and our care team.

Love,

Nathan & Renee
