Ride 4 Riley

A 20 year old individual(goes by they/them) named Riley reached out to Homeless Solidarity Project, expressing safety concerns about where they were staying in Cape Coral, FL. Cape Coral is literally the worst city in Florida for LGBTQ folks according to the organization "Human Rights Campaign."

Riley has been homeless off and on for 3 years, and since talking to us they have lost their housing again and are back on the streets. After considering their options, Riley decided that coming to Portland Maine is their best option, to find community and support as a queer(non-gender-binary) homeless youth.

Here's what they have to say:

"I became homeless at 17, due to being kicked out for having a boyfriend. I have since then been homeless on and off, Being in places with little to help for people in my situation.

I think Portland would help me because it has resources and accepting people that would allow me to progress in life."

Please help Homeless Solidarity Project to help Riley get somewhere safer and more supportive.

By donating what you can and helping us raise $300 we can cover the costs of transportation for Riley from Florida to Maine, food for the 2 day bus ride, and some pocket money for them to use as they see fit to help them adjust to a new city while they get themselves set up.

Peer Advocates with Homeless Solidarity Project will stay in touch with Riley offering them information and helping them network as needed, and supporting them any way we can to help them get what they need.

They do not have  a bank account so the money will be depositted in a peer advocate's account, and then sent via western union to somewhere accessible to Riley.)
