Return to Haiti Mama

Hi everyone! For those of you that don't know me personally, let me give you a brief background. I am 26 years old and have been a pediatric nurse for 4 years at CHOP. I work on a unit that focuses on babies and children with complex medical issues, usually requiring multiple specialists and lots of equipment. I also recently started a job as a school nurse in Camden, NJ. Aside from these amazing jobs, I have a passion for global health. This sparked when I was in college at Villanova and had the opportunity to participate in 3 international service trips.

In November 2017, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Haiti with a small team to work with an organization called Haiti Mama. Haiti Mama is an absolutely AMAZING program in Haiti, started by Tausha Pearson, that works to reunite children living on the streets/in orphanages with their families. On top of this, they offer many other services, such as working with families to empower them to have housing and financial stability, education services, employment services, and disability care. During my time there in 2017, we spent a lot of time working with the caregivers of the children in the disability care program. We provided them with CPR and first aid education, as well as massage techniques that would be beneficial for the children with disabilities. The program recently took in a 4th child, Carl, a 2 year old with an unknown disability. Since they don’t really know what his disability is or what his history includes, it is difficult to understand how to best care for him. Carl is extremely delayed, not even able to sit up on his own. After speaking with Tausha about him a few times, she opened up the opportunity to have me come down and assess Carl, and work with the mamas to learn how to beat care for him.

Serving people around the world is my greatest passion in life, and I would really love to go down to Haiti to help with baby Carl, as well as the whole Haiti Mama crew again. Unfortunately, I took a pay cut this year with my new job and am looking for a little help to get me there. Any money raised will go directly to helping get me to Haiti, and to Haiti Mama itself.
