Preserve History! Help Restore Hall of State

Tax deductible
Would you join in making a historical difference by preserving history?

Dallas Historical Society is the tenant and steward of Hall of State in Fair Park  ; while the City of Dallas has designated money through the bond package to restore and renovate the Hall of State (such as problems shown in photo above); it is still not enough to return the Hall of State to its original glory.

So now, we look to you, the citizens of Dallas and Texas, to save this Texas Landmark. Any donation will help make an impact; our goal is much smaller than our need.

Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to the city of Dallas and the state of Texas.

About the Hall of State in Fair Park:

Built in 1936, as the centerpiece, known as the "crown jewel", of the Texas Centennial Exposition and designed by Donald Barthelme. Originally known as the State of Texas building, Hall of State is renowned for its Art Deco styling and magnificent interior. Blending history and art, it interprets the Texas spirit; where images and ideas intermingle to form a rich tapestry of Texas’ past. The building honors heroes from the history of the nation and state of Texas. At $1.2 million, it was the most expensive structure per square foot ever built in Texas at the time. The focal point of the building is the outstanding Great Hall  (also known as the Hall of Six Flags) with Joseph Renier’s gold medallion, cathedral-like 46-foot sky-lighted ceilings, and mosaic tiles; Eugene Savage’s Byzantine-style murals; and George Davidson’s hand-stenciled ceiling.  Additionally, there are four rooms in the two wings of the building , each with distinctive interiors dedicated to the economic, environmental, and cultural differences of the geographic regions (North, South, East, and West) of Texas. These rooms include impressive murals, statues, and carvings depicting various lives in Texas’ history by renowned artists such as Tom Lea, Olin Travis, Arthur Starr Niendorff, Eugene Savage and James Owen Mahoney Jr.

Hall of State has hosted events honoring presidents, royalty, heads of state, and other dignitaries. It is available for special events, weddings, presentations, and corporate events . The 394-seat Margaret and Al Hill Lecture Hall is available for presentations and productions. It is also home to the G. B. Dealey Library , which is a research facility available to the public.
