I would like to collect $250,000 + $1 to fund the work of Just City prior to Memphis' Bicentennial of May 22, 2019.
Although the campaign will not fund a celebration, your funds will be a lasting investment in the lives of persons in our city and in a non-profit that should be celebrated.
This campaign was developed in response to the Tennessee Legislature's actions to penalize the City of Memphis.
On 4-17-18, Tennessee lawmakers voted to withdraw $250,000 that had previously been approved to fund the 2019 Memphis Bicentennial Celebration. This action was devised as a penalty to the City of Memphis for the City's removal of Confederate monuments on 12-20-17.
A general discussion of the events can be found here: https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/tennessee/articles/2018-04-17/tennessee-lawmakers-punish-memphis-for-removing-statues
In the Bicentennial Spirit, please consider donating $2, $20, $200, or $2000 if:
-you disagree with the actions taken by the Tennessee Legislature.
-you feel that the words spoken in Nashville (often) do not represent you or the City of Memphis.
-you care about those who do not have a voice.
-you desire greater justice in our city.
Thank you for supporting the work of Just City and for your concern for the city of Memphis.
