On March 22, 2018, Groveland was drenched in over 8-1/2” of rain in 15 hours, with 4” falling in just 3 hours. This storm exceeded the 150-year flood frequency. The result was Main Street flooded in 12-18 inches of water, causing millions of dollars in damage to buildings, parks, and roadways. Mary Laveroni Community Park was hard hit. This park is not only a convenient and tranquil stop available to over a million travelers a year going to and from Yosemite National Park, but is the venue for many community activities, including the “Where the Hell is Groveland Classic Car Show, Church in the Park, Summer Flea Market, the famous 49er Festival, and our Halloween Trunk or Treat celebration. These activities bring hundreds of thousands of dollars to our local businesses and substantial income to our local service clubs, like Rotary, Kiwanis, and 4H.

Unless we repair this park quickly, these events won’t happen and our community will suffer even more than it already has. We have a generous outpouring of volunteers from the community ready to begin the repair work.

But, we are lacking the $30,000 to bring in the 900 tons to backfill material, gravel, and asphalt needed to make the repairs required to open the park for our events. This is a call out to all those who enjoy Mary's Park to contribute to the GoFundMe account managed be Groveland Rotary Club.

REPAIR MARY'S PARK
This is an update on our project to repair Mary's Park. First, I would like to thank all who have donated money either to GoFundMe or directly to the Groveland Rotary Project Fund. We have great news. Blue Mountain Minerals has donated all the gravel we can use (750 to 900 tons!!!)...all we have to do is find a way to get it to Groveland from Columbia. We are working on that. GCSD must follow environmental compliance rules, which will be satisfied in about two weeks. GCSD personnel have been busy stripping the rotted dry wall out of the Snack Shack and reconnecting all utilities. The last thing we need to do is paint the two buildings, and we are working on that. As for fundraising, we have raised $3,400 thru GoFundMe and about $2,000 directly to Groveland Rotary. We have a ways to go, but we are sure to meet our goal, knowing Grovelanders the way we do. Again, BIG Thank Yous for all your support!!!
