Powerful community engagement tools

The Background
Over the past 3 years I have built transparent commenting campaigns to raise political awareness of community opposition to projects like the
Massey Tunnel Replacement ProjectFraser Surrey Docks coal port , Tilbury Island LNG , Site C Dam, Kinder Morgan Transmountain Pipeline , etc.

These campaigns have processed 29,000 comments and generated 745,000 emails to key decision-makers and local, regional and federal politicians.

It's great that the Real Hearings concept is taking hold and that people understand the need to amplify their concerns. However, the cost behind supporting our operations is growing quickly too. As you can imagine, processing comments on this scale generates huge numbers of emails and requires increasing amounts of resources to ensure that the sites load and process comments quickly in our time of instant gratification.

What I Am Doing
I am building a templatable version of the Real Hearings concept to allow anyone to build a campaign about an important local cause and share it within their own networks. The entire process will be easy to use and allow people with simple computer skills to build a powerful public engagement solution very quickly. Built on the Real Hearings concept, people will be able to design every aspect of their campaign, deploy it anywhere they want and reach anyone they want.

Development is proceeding as funds become available but to reach the next level a sizable injection of cash is needed.

How You Can Help
- Send money to help me build better engagement tools
- Publish this fundraising campaign
- Use Real Hearings commenting platforms
- Suggest the Real Hearings concept to people and organizations who need help publishing their causes.

Why This Matters
A few years ago, I became involved fighting US thermal coal exports through the lower mainland along with citizens and community groups  all over British Columbia. During this time, I realized that the public consultation processes on large infrastructure projects was mere lip service and the environmental assessment process was more akin to a rhythmic rubber stamping process. Because of this lack of real public consultation, the idea for Real Hearings was born.

What Is Real Hearings?
Real Hearings  builds powerful engagement tools for everyone. We build transparent commenting tools that target key decision-makers and create a public record of people's concerns. Real Hearings strongly believes transparent, public commenting on major industrial projects is key to democratic decision making. Large projects by their nature have significant and wide-ranging effects with potential to affect large numbers of people in many different ways. Those people need the opportunity to express their concerns to decision makers, and if they choose, to make their concerns public so others can learn from them too.

Who I Am
My name is Eoghan Moriarty and I am passionate about public transparency and protecting our environment. I run a small creative business that provides a range of media and web services to mainly non-profit partners.

I am invloved filming community events and post them on my YouTube channel  as a matter of public record. I am passionate about aerial video and am actively trying to raise public awareness about the destructive and unneeded Site C Dam project in the Peace River Valley.
