CONNECT

Every kid deserves a space to feel like they belong, to be loved on and to have someone believe in them. Together with a few awesome friends, I am starting a teen group with the sole purpose of creating a safe place for kids to feel genuine connection and feel cared about. We are starting off small, one day a month, but hoping to grow. The Elk River YMCA is being kind enough to allow us to use their community room, and some local churches are donating money for pizza. We could still use a few funds to help pay for  our flyers/advertising and to purchase coloring pictures, journals and some other miscellaneous items for the kids we will be hanging out with.

Research professor Brene Brown stated, “A deep sense of love and belonging is an irresistible need of all people. We are biologically, cognitively, physically, and spiritually wired to love, to be loved, and to belong. When those needs are not met, we don’t function as we were meant to. We break. We fall apart. We numb. We ache. We hurt others. We get sick.”
