"Mamma" Pam from Smith needs help!

Donation protected
Pam Pelleschi, known to many as Mamma Pam, has been a key figure in the Smith JYA Florence experience for decades. Starting in the late 80s, Pam was a host mother, and a very kind and loving one, despite the fact that she had to move almost every year. Those of us that lived with Pam also enjoyed getting to know her 2 adorable kids, Marco and Alessandro, now all grown up but far from home. We also enjoyed her delicious cooking! In the late 90s Pam began offering cooking classes to Smithies, and prepared all the catered events like the end-of-the-year party, holidays, etc. Pam has accompanied many of us on excursions, and moreover has been a constant support / presence during our time abroad; if anyone ever needed any practical assistance, she was and is available to help.

Pam has always been kind and generous, despite her limited financial abilities. For example, Pam has spent the last few years caring for an elderly cousin in the small mountain community of Calamecca, where she now lives. This relative recently passed away, and, as if in a fairytale, left a sizable inheritance and estate without a will and testament. Now, a heated legal battle has ensued on both sides of the pond, between Pam’s elderly father in France, who is the proven closest heir, and other cousins who reside in the US. These relatives have falsified a will and other signatures in order to access funds from the deceased woman’s bank account. Although the diminished funds have now been temporarily blocked, and the Italian court has ruled the signatures fraudulent, both sides are awaiting the final Italian judgement, which then must be rendered valid in the U.S., where the relatives continue to fight against Pam's legal action.

Pam is in great need of help to cover legal fees to resolve this matter abroad as well as in Italy, and the exact amount needed is still uncertain.  She deserves this justice, but needs our help. If you know Pam, or if you’d like to make a kind gesture to help someone dear to so many of us in the Smith Florence JYA Community, we (and she) would be most grateful!
