Help Alexis Stay in Our Community

Donation protected
Alexis Ramirez Arano was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in January of 2016 while dining at a local restaurant.  An openly gay man who has been subject to varying degrees of harassment and abuse in Mexico, Alexis is seeking multiple forms of legal relief including asylum.  US immigration courts recently set his extremely high bond at $12,000 because the court does not recognize his deep roots in the community as family or social ties.  As the fight to keep Alexis here in our community continues in the following week, the fight will require the capacity to cover his bond and the incurred  legal fees.  We hope you can make a donation to help cover the $12,000 bond.  We have already fundraised $1,000 towards this bond.

Funds raised will cover the $12,000 bond needed to release Alexis from immigration-related detention.  Any funds raised above this amount would cover legal fees as well as other associated costs.  Upon release of the bond, the $12,000 will be returned to WICIR to be utilized in future efforts to support community
members.
