Plant a Pine Project
Hey everyone! Thank you for your interest in helping us. The Plant a Pine Project is a fundraising effort to raise enough money to cover the costs of planting new trees and shrubs in the devastated Cathedral Pines area of Jonathon's Woods. Jonathon's Woods is a Morris County Park located in Denville and Boonton Township, NJ. This area was hit especially hard by Superstorm Sandy and as you can see in the picture, thousands of white pines were destroyed. Since then, a forester was brought in by the Morris County Park Commission to log the remaining pines. After the trees were taken away, a variety of nonnative/invasive species have come in and attempted to take over the area. Our goal is work with the Morris County Park Commission to control these invasive species and then plant a variety of native trees and shrubs that will help to rebuild the shattered ecosystem. A hiking trail will also be stablished through the area.
Any donation will be gladly accepted, however, those who donate $50 or more will have their names listed on plaque that will be posted outside of the area where the restoration will take place. The trees will be bought and planted by POWWW (Protect our Wetlands, Water, and Woods) during the fall of 2015. Thank you for your generosity and help in preserving our parks with the Plant a Pine Project!
