NEK 99% is a community group in Newport, Vermont. We have a small art gallery and community center and do a variety of projects. In 2015 we received a Vermont Governor's Award for Community Service
The 99 Market is one of NEK 99%'s funnest and most useful projects. We started the project in 2015. In 2016 we purchased two shares from a local CSA and distributed the produce to neighborhood residents each week. This isn't a "nutritional" project. Rather it's a great opportunity to talk with our neighbors about healthy food, learn about new vegetables and share cooking tips. Some of our neighbors buy most of their groceries at the local dollar store. This project introduces them to local farms and the great taste of fresh local produce.
