Putting a roof over a wounded vets and his family!

Kevin Cooke, a veterans’ counselor in Putnam County, has experienced his own share of stress. After a tree destroyed his home, his young family was at loose ends – They have USAA Insurance Company, who badly mismanaged Mr. Cooke's insurance claim, and treated him like a fool, making up their own terms and conditions as they went along, knowing all too well that there mishandling of the claim is what caused the damages to become so bad. And now  causing the home to get so moldy it is unlivable. I can't for the life of me understand how an insurance company knowing this is a seriously injured Man who was protecting our country, put him and his small children, and a wife that's 8 months pregnant who also suffers from epilepsy in grave danger. You figure they would do the right thing and fix the mess they created. They hide behind their voicemails. So all of you vets who have trusted in USAA Insurance company, think again this could be you and your family the insurance company is ready to put the family in the street. They spent christmas in a one bedroom hotel room, and ate mcdonalds. Its heart breaking......

The Putnam Valley man, 33, enlisted in the military the day after Sept. 11, 2001, and was medically discharged eight years later as the result of serious wounds received in Iraq. Married and a father of two young children, with a third on the way, Cooke was distraught in March when a 110-foot tree crashed onto his home along Lakeshore Drive during a violent tornado, crushing his vehicle and doing serious damages to his residence.

Despite filing a claim with his insurance company, he heard little over the past eight months, and he was forced to find temporary living quarters after his home developed mold because of the insurance company looking to sweep Mr. Cooke's claim under the rug. Mr. Cooke could not fight back, as most of his income goes to put a roof over his family's head, and feed the children. They knew he would be an easy mark, and unable to hire counsel to protect him and his family.

Cooke describes grabbing a jacket for his son in early October, when temperatures began dropping. “It was covered in mold,” he said. “I freaked out and gave him a bath while tossing all of the contents of the closet in the trash, I still cant believe USAA treated us like we were common trash. It's bad enough I already had PTSD. This just compounded the issue x 10, but I had no choice but to stay strong, so my family would not fall apart, and my poor kids, what did they do to deserve this, they are children. Shame on USAA, if they are doing this to me, I just wonder who else they are also doing this to. All I want is my home back, as a safe place for my family

Concerned with getting the house back in order and prioritizing his family, Cooke then emailed his bosses, Karl Rohde and Art Hanley, asking for time off to deal with the issue. To this day Mr. Cooke has maxed out his credit card, and the hotel he is staying in is ready to put them in the street. If that happens this man and his family with his pregnant wife will be forced into a shelter. How do these insurance company people sleep at night. Mr. Cooke has left numerous message for the claims supervisor at least 10- 15 times, and to date she has not return one call
