The River speaks TO many - We speak FOR the River!
The Weeki Wachee River Rangers is a group of concerned citizens who volunteer their
time to help preserve Hernando County’s most precious natural resource, the Weeki
Wachee River.
Our mission is to clean trash out of the river and on its banks, protect the West Indian
manatees and marine life from pollution, prevent further riverbank erosion caused by
humans and educate the people who use the river, on safety and environmental
stewardship.
The River has no voice thus we can speak FOR the river to government agencies at the
county, state and federal levels. Helping the River must be a collaborative effort.
PREVENT - PROTECT - PRESERVE
In August 2018, the Weeki Wachee River Rangers removed over 600 POUNDS of trash
from the banks of the Weeki Wachee in just two days! It is a never ending battle.
Some people who come to boat on the river have no respect for nature. They keep
polluting our waterway and surrounding area. Their disregard is having a direct effect on
the Weeki Wachee River ecosystem.

HISTORY:
The Weeki Wachee River is one of the most famous and one of the most beautiful rivers
in all of Florida. The Seminole Indians named it "Weeki Wachee" which means "little
springs or winding river".
It starts at the Weeki Wachee Spring. It is the deepest, naturally occurring spring in the
USA. The spring emits over 170 million gallons of pristine water daily - all flowing down
the Weeki Wachee River into the Gulf of Mexico, 7.4 miles away.
The Weeki Wachee River is home to many:
• West Indian manatees
• Turtles
• Otters
• Storks
• Pelicans
• Variety of marine life
• Snakes
• Eagles
• Humans

Because of its ever growing popularity, thousands of tourists visit the Weeki Wachee
River (on a weekly basis) to kayak and paddle board. It truly is one of the
most beautiful and tranquil rivers in all of Florida.

If we allow the Weeki Wachee River to become polluted, the price will be very high.
Your donation will help the Weeki Wachee River Rangers keep the river clean.
We need supplies to help protect the river such as:

* Dive Tanks
* Chase Boat
* Fuel
* Dive Masks
* Trash Bags
* Trash Grabbers
* Gloves
