Miguel’s Fight:

What would you do help someone you love? Is there anything you would not do? If you could take the suffering of a loved one in pain, would you? We would, if we could. We know that now, having had first hand experience of it over the last few months.

Our names are Marisa, Cristina, Tony and Raquel and we are raising money for our Dad, Miguel Reyes. Miguel is fighting a brave battle against lung adenocarcinoma, metastatic to the brain.

Miguel began having issues about 3 months ago when his right foot began to go numb. The numbness slowly moved up the leg and over several weeks turned to complete paralysis of the right leg. Doctors were baffled. He saw a chiropractor, a spine doctor and eventually a neurologist who ordered a CT scan of the brain. The CT scan came back and there they were, three tumors starring us in the face. One tumor was pushing on the sensory nerves controlling the movement in his right leg. In consternation, the doctors ordered brain surgery the next day. What a whirlwind!

Miguel is currently recovering from brain surgery and boy is he a fighter! He is undergoing aggressive physical therapy to help regain movement of his legs. Next up for him is chemo and radiation.

As kids we would often think of him as invincible, so strong and able to overcome anything, including being life-flighted for a work accident and undergoing a massive heart attack about two years ago when we thought we were going to lose him. We are hopeful that he will overcome this as well. After all, he has God on his side, he is one of the strongest people we know,  and has a support system that would do anything in order to help. Including this.

We went back and forth about what to do about the costs that are mounting while Miguel is in recovery, its hard asking friends, family, and strangers to help. We’ve been taught that help is a sign of weakness, so we cling to the notion “I can do everything myself” even if its no longer the case. In this instance it is no longer the case. We need your help.

We are raising funds for Miguel to assist with living expenses, loss of income, hospital bills and relief from the financial burdens that come in a situation such as this. Anything you are able to contribute is deeply appreciated. If you are unable to donate we would still value your prayers.
