Picketts in Iraq - Refugee Crisis

$104,337 of $150,000 goal

Raised by 535 people in 58 months
My family and I have been living here in Iraqi Kurdistan for 7 years.  We have been helping the Syrian Kurdish and Christian refugees since they started to flood into Iraq 5 years ago.  Near our house is the Basirma Refugee Camp and Ashti 2 Camp.

Since winter 15' we started a feeding project for 80-90 children refugees.  Six days a week they get a hot meal at the kindergarden.

We had a bread project and for  1 1/2 years with your help 700 loaves a day were baked, 21,000 a month, & over 320,000 were baked for refugees since we started!   Food aid is dwindeling and the refugees are living on about $12 per person per month from the World Food Program.

Extra money that came in also bought 400 blankets last winter, many packs of diapers, powdered milk, and 500 backpacks for refugee school children.  We  also housed 3 refugee families in one house and some expensive medicines were also bought.   We did a Kerosene distribution for 90 refugee Christian families with little to no heat.  We spent $8000 on that.  Thank-You for your help!  God Bless you all, Grady Pickett and family

Other random refugee aid shared:
-Repaired a refugee home that blew up due to a gas leak
-Paid wages to refugees for helping us.
-Bought a hot water heater for a refugee.
-Bought food for the new Christian protection forces recruited from the refugee population.
-Bought $2000 of Diesel for generators at the camps
-Bought $1200 of chlorine for the water supply at one camp.
-$100 of plastic chairs bought for refugee school
-Summer wages paid for 7 teachers at kindergarten
-Vegetable seeds distributed for gardens
-$25 cash aid to 90 refugee families
-12 kerosene heaters for refugee school
-1 air conditioner for a grandma in the camp
-300 pairs of shoes shared with refugees

Thanks for your help the past 4 years. It's strange to see children born in the refugee camp are now
in the kindergarten. Another year has ended and now it is summer break. We will continue to help and feed the children when school starts again in the fall. We continue to meet needs that come to our attention. Recently, we helped a refugee get all her teeth fixed, we helped another buy his first car, the tractor and trailer we bought is now bringing in the first harvest since the IS invasion and another refugee was helped with lessening wedding and engagement costs. Your help has been a huge blessing to many. Thank-YOU!

For the big clean-up in the Christian villages near Mosul we bought a used Massey-Fergusun 4x4 tractor. We also bought a high pressure water sprayer system that runs off the PTO on the tractor to power wash the cement block homes that ISIS burned. We also bought a dump trailer. This cleaning project with teams coming in to help will keep us busy into the Fall.

Hello Friends, Thank you for your love & generosity through gofundme to help the people affected by the wars in Syria and Iraq since 2014. Our goal for 2017 is $50,000 and about $8000 has come in this year. The daily kindergarten feeding project has grown from 81 to about 237 Syrian refugee children and this fall many Christian refugee families will be returning to some heavily war damaged homes. We've helped clean up a few homes and a church but the big clean up and rebuild is coming soon. Almost daily smaller needs come to our attention that we take care of also. We seem to do well filling in the cracks where the big organizations have missed.
Sincerely - Thank You!

Thank-you everyone for your help. Since the new year we have been feeding 81 Syrian refugee kindergarteners daily at the Basirma Camp in N. Iraq, Kurdistan. This summer we are also paying their 7 refugee teachers $250 each for the next 4 months. They've never been paid for their service so it will be hugely appreciated. We also bought 10 barrels of diesel fuel for electrical generators at another camp in Ankawa. I apologize for the delay in updates. If you follow us on FB or Instagram (gradyp74) you see what we do daily. Sincerely, Grady Pickett
