Photography trip to St. Lucia, Kwazulu-Natal

Hello, friends and family! If you knew me when I was a kid, you probably know that I have always wanted to go Africa. Now, finally, my chance has come! I have recently found out that I am going to be going to St. Lucia, Kwazulu-Natal (Zululand), South Africa in August! I will be there for three weeks volunteering at an orphanage for children that have predominantly lost their parents to HIV. Although most of the every day tasks will include childcare and teaching english, I will be there as a photographer documenting the culture and children for my own portfolio and for the organization I am going with. The photographs that I will be taking will be used to bring awareness to the living situations of hundreds of kids in the village that I will be volunteering in. Through my documentation of the community in Zululand, I will be able to give outsiders a look into what the organization is doing to help children and families in poverty. The photographs of the children and the orphanage will also be used by the organization to fundraise money that then directly goes back into the orphanage to help pay for school supplies and medical supplies. Specific "tasks" on this trip will include childcare with babies, book-reading club and after school care with the older kids, and health and english education. During the volunteer opportunities, I will be photographing all that is around me in an effort to capture the every day lives of these children and my fellow, dedicated volunteers.


With your help, I will be able to travel to the beautiful town of Zululand and be immersed in an incredible culture. It is my responsibility to pay for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I need all the help I cand get!
