Philip's Ageout Season

Donation protected
Hey!
My name is Philip Martinez and I am head Drum Major for Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps. This will be my 3rd year with Spirit and 4th season of Drum Corps.

Everyone knows that Drum Corps is very expensive so I created this page so it can be easier to contribute and help me march my last summer of DCI! Any donations will be put towards my fees for the summer. Each member has a summer tuition fee that goes towards gas for the buses, food, uniform cleaning, instrument maintenance, and so much more.

A little backgound on my experience, I have held several leadership positions in the marching arts starting with High School section leader and later Drum Major my senior year. Once I got to college I auditioned and recieved the position of Drum Major for my sophmore year and currently as a junior, I have now held it for 2 years. So through High School, College, and Drum Corps I have 10 seasons of marching experience and I have loved every second of it.

I started my Drum Corps career when I auditioned for Spirit in 2013 for the 2014 season. Sadly, I was cut in the last round. However, this gave me the opportunity to march with Atlanta CV for the 2014 season! The people I met, the stories I heard, and the experience I gained only fueled the fire to march a World Class Drum Corps. I went back to Spirit the next year, 2015, determined to get a contract the first camp, and I did. The rest is history. All seaosn I worked as hard as I could following those who set a good example. I learned how to do everything so that even as a rookie I could be as helpful as possible (Thanks Nathan Gregory). I made great lifelong friends, heard amazing stories, and developed a mindset of how to get better everyday. I truly felt like I was a part of the family. At the end of the season I was honored to have been given the Rookie of the Year Award for brass. I returned for the 2016 season and I took this opportunity to take what I learned my rookie year and apply it everyday as a vet.

I volunteered and helped as many tour jobs as I could and learned how to really "drum corps". Through this I met even more amazing people and got to know so many of the members, truly expanding my f<(mily. The staff who stepped up to lead the corps for the 2016 was truly inspirational. The passion that the brass staff expressed and the diligent work ethic that the corps director and the board has shown is very inspiring and I know that investing my time into Spirit would be worth it. So, I returned for my 3rd season, only this time auditioning for Drum Major and I made it. I wanted to help this organization grow in the best way I possibly could. I want to invest all of my time in helping this corps educate our members and give the members the same great experiences I have had and better.
