Perpetual Picketing

What I Do:  Perpetual Picketing – one button and one person at a time.

I make buttons to order, featuring the statement or sentiment of your choice as well as those of our own invention, free of charge except for shipping.

Why I Do It:

To do my part in uniting my divided nation.

To allow us in the simplest and lowest tech of ways to remind each other of our common goals as Americans.

To prevent the current climate in which we find ourselves from becoming normalized.

To reinvigorate the American talent for healthy political debate as opposed to empty provocation. Once upon a time our disagreements were mostly peaceable and thoughtful because we all agreed on the Constitution and the rule of law.

We all have to find that talent again: our historic national genius for communication no matter our sub-group. This is my way, one button and one person at a time.

Why Buttons:

I have always liked buttons – they are personal. You have to approach someone to read their button. They are also deliberate. i.e. conscious. Nobody puts on a button by accident.  They turn your every step into a perpetual picket line and a voice for repairing the country.

What I Hope for the Future of Perpetual Picketing

It was my plan to create and give out 1,000 buttons a month, but my little plant outgrew its pot on its first day of life. The first 1000 were gone or spoken for in less than 10 days. See design examples above.

In a joined spirit of empowerment, kindness, and freedom, people have begun to inquire about how they can help support the creation and dissemination of more buttons.

Any funds contributed will be used to buy supplies and a second button machine.

Word of mouth and one on one contact is the best support I could hope for- wearing your button(s) and carrying lots of extras when countless of your fellow citizens keep stopping you to ask where you got them. This is when the fun happens -- when you take off your button and put it straight in the other person's hand, and when s/he says, "But I can't take your pin!" you reach into your pocket or bag and pin another one to yourself.  Or perhaps you'd rather leave your own button on, and hand some of your stash over. WE WANT TO GIVE THEM AWAY SO THAT YOU CAN GIVE THEM AWAY TOO.

In true patriotism, American solidarity, peace, and celebration of our highest ideals,

Vic

Thanks to the volunteers for help with production and distribution and a special  Thanks to cousin Fanya for the “perpetual picketing” name.
