Pennies for Pune

Donation protected
Nilufer Medora is a professor at CSULB, teaching familiy studies. She began her penny project ten years ago during a visit to India. She visited a slum area in Western India, in a town called Pune, and was heartbroken by what she saw. 4x6 ft "houses" made of cow dung and plastic that hold families of 9, urine in the streets, drinking water full of bacteria, the list goes on.  Ever since then, she has collected pennies in her spare time and at the end of each semester she personally buys what the school, oprhanage, and slum area needs, and goes back to the slum to deliver these things herself.

From the Pennies That Have Been Collected in the Past, the Following Have Been Accomplished:

School supplies
Thousands of notebooks
Stainless steel plates, glasses, spoons
Built toilets and a shower stall
Provided huge pots for cooking with lids
Fed the entire school kids (420) along with their families
Assisted in building small extensions on homes when ‘emergencies arose’
Bought blankets for the school children
Bought shoes for 20 young children
Bought a gas stove that 10 families can use
Bought basic (beginning) English books for the library

One of Nilufer's students, Zoie, has now collaborated with her to expand her project to more college campuses, to generate more money, to enhance the quality of more lives. While they are still collecting pennies, any sort of donation makes a huge difference. Please consider making a donation to help them reach their goal for January of 2018. - anything helps!! Thank you <3
