As the year draws to an end, we at the Paris Police Department and Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office are once again preparing for the upcoming holidays and events for the community. It is a time for being with loved ones, celebrating joyful moments, and creating fond memories with those you hold near. As public servants, we are aware of the everyday struggles of our citizens, and it is important to all of us that we attempt to give back to the community that we serve.
In 2014, with the help of school resources, forty children from both Paris and Bourbon County schools were selected to participate in the Shop With A Cop program. On the night of the beginning of their holiday vacation, the students along with family members gathered at our local Wal Mart where Santa was waiting with pizza and cookies before the shopping began. Each child was allotted $50 for clothing and $100 for toys and, with input from mom and dad and Law Enforcement as Santa’s Helpers, the kids were allowed to select the items that they most desired. From coats and boots, to Bratz Dolls and Transformer Figures, every child was provided with what they wanted. Also, through outstanding resources, each child received a draw string backpack filled with school supplies that were needed to complete the year.
None of this would have been made possible if it were not for the generosity of this community. Thanks to the overwhelming outpour of donations, Shop With A Cop was even able to help additional children who were younger family members to the selected children, by purchasing items that they too, most needed. This 2015, Paris Police Department, the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office, and both school elementary school systems, are joining together to again help families who are less fortunate, by easing some stress from the holidays. Working alongside of our Citizens Police Academy Alumni, Wal Mart, and our wonderful community, we are attempting to gather funds to make this annual event possible. With your donation of any kind, you can help children have the Christmas they deserve.
