Since its inception in 1881, Union Memorial Baptist Church (UMBChurch) has a rich history in the Westminster, Maryland community. Men and women of all ages and from various cultural backgrounds come to worship here and are comforted and welcomed by all. Over the years we have done a great deal to ensure that we can continue with our rich heritage, our outreach to the community and to ensure we are a safe haven to our congregation. This year, UMBChurch will be 135 years old and we’ve seen many blessing s over years. In 1983 through God’s favor and gifts and the hard work of many we were able to construct our current location at 160 S Center Street Westminster Maryland and on October 23, 1983 we held our first service here. Along with God’s continued blessings we’ve also had to overcome many challenges. Because of a stressed economy and an aging congregation we are experiencing financial struggles and these struggles have become magnified and more difficult to overcome because of our size. In addition, we have lost dedicated members of our congregation due to deaths (in 2014 alone we lost 5 members within months of each other) and, as a small community church, the loss of those members has affected us both emotionally and financially.
We take great pride in the maintenance of our grounds and our sanctuary. Our church requires a lot of repairs but for now our primary attention is on raising funds to fix our foundation problems and our handicap access ramps. We are asking for help to raise the funds needed to keep our sanctuary and grounds safe. Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 to get things started.
With God’s continued blessings and your help we know we will be around for generations to come. WE PRAY OUR LEGACY CONTINUES FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 135 YEARS.
