20K STC Dream Team Fundraiser 2016

The 20K Serve the City (STC) Dream Team Fundraiser is back for 2016! For the past four years STC has been organising this annual fundraiser, where runners find sponsors to run the Brussels 20K. All the funds raised supporting STC actions in Brussels. 

This year our aim is to taise 10,000 eur.

Serve the City

Serve the City is a non-profit organisation that started in Brussels 11 years ago, and is now active in over 100 cities around the world. Our organisation acts as a matchmaker between volunteers and NGOs that serve the homeless, asylum seekers, children in need, the elderly, victims of abuse, and the disabled.

In the beginning, Serve the City only had its annual event, the Big Volunteer Week, which is a week of volunteering with different projects across the city, ending with a street party on Place du Jeu de Balle.

The volunteering opportunities expanded to quarterly and later monthly events, known as Focus Days, which is a Saturday dedicated to volunteering. In addition, now, volunteers have the possibility of partaking in weekly projects near to where they live organised into five neighbourhood clusters: Etterbeek, Ixelles, Les Marolles, Schaerbeek, and Ste Catherine.

STC connects volunteers to more than 60 NGOs that partner with us. Our volunteers serve and support the day-to-day work of our partner through social and practical activities. For example, activities can include a sewing workshop, a cooking and baking workshop, jewellery making, beauty treatments, sports, yoga, cleaning, sorting storage areas, preparing and serving food, arts & crafts, karaoke, outings to the cinema, French and Dutch lessons, dancing, and much more.... 

All this would not be possible without the hard work of our Core Team and dedicated volunteers.

We need your help to achieve the mission of STC. We like to say many people doing small things together makes a big difference.

Aim

Funds raised through the 20K STC Dream Team will go towards:

·  A meal for someone living on the streets (5 euro)

·  A care package for asylum seekers living in transition (10 euro)

·  A craft box to give to children living in a squat the opportunity to express themselves creatively (25 euro)

· Painting supplies to brighten up the shelters that house those in need (250 euro)

The funds collected will also go towards the preparation and organisation of our weekly projects, monthly Focus Days, and our annual Big Volunteer Week.

What can you do to help?

20K STC Dream Team runners are looking for sponsors. They are asking colleagues, friends, and family to sponsor their run and help achieve the objective of 10,000 EUR.

We have asked each runner to raise 200 EUR or more. If one runner found 10 sponsors who would be willing to donate 20 euro each (that’s 1 euro per kilometre), 200 euro could be achieved.
