ThetaTau Historic House Restoration
Theta Tau is the nation’s largest and foremost professional engineering fraternity. Since its foundation at the University of Minnesota in 1904, over 35,000 men and women have joined its ranks. Our chapter, Epsilon Beta, was installed on May 19, 1951 at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. The chapter has seen more than 500 members pass through and currently retains a roster of 23 active members. The chapter holds a multitude of professional development events, social activities, and community service opportunities that enrich the university experience for our members and better prepare them for a career in engineering.
Support for the day-to-day activities of the chapter is made possible by collecting dues from the student members of the chapter, which is designed to be affordable for the average college student. To keep these expenses reasonable, they have not included expenses for long term chapter projects. This is where the important support that our community and alumni provides us comes in. In partnership with Midtown Detroit, Inc., we hope to restore our chapter house to its former high victorian glory. As the surrounding neighborhood receives investment and renovations, we are particularly motivated to ensure that our house remains a fixture for both our chapter and the community. For that to happen, we are looking to gladly and appreciatively accept any donations made towards renovating our historic home.
In renovating our home at 478 W. Alexandrine Street in Midtown, Detroit, we plan to have work done on the house that is necessary to bring it up to historical standards. This includes, but is not limited to, woodwork, painting, and even some masonry. Below, you can see a rendered version of what the house could look like given the attention and care that it so desperately needs.
To date, we have raised the necessary $50,000 that is needed in order to receive full matching funds from Midtown Detroit, Inc. However, the bill was higher than expected, totalling closer to $112,000, or higher in the case that unexpected damages are found upon further inspection. While we were have been able to get the project and construction rolling by taking out a loan for the last $12,000, we hope to receieve as many final donations as possible in order to clear this debt and allow us to focus our future fundraising efforts on the interior of the building. Thank you to all who have donated thus far, it truly means the world to us!
As a sign of our wholehearted appreciation, we are offering the following donation reward levels to the generous benefactors of this project:
However, there are still funds to raise for further chapter payment towards the construction, $12,000 to be exact. If you wish to donate to help us cover the remaining costs of the restoration project, you may do so through the GoFundMe page or donate to the Theta Tau Educational Foundation on behalf of our campaign to the link below. The Theta Tau Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization so your donation through this page is tax deductible, and appreciated beyond words. We humbly thank everyone who has contributed to the campaign thus far, and look forward to showing you all the restored state of the house by the estimated completion date of November 5th, 2016.
Note: Those who donate through this page will also be eligible for the rewards outlined in this GoFundMe Campaign.
For those who have already donated, we would again like to thank you for your sincere generosity because with it we were able to exceed our original expectations. We will also soon start to disburse rewards to those whom have donated, for example by posting a photo gallery of the restoration progress as well as sending periodic emails on the restoration progress. Keep an eye out for emails regarding our progress!

We would like to extend our most sincere gratitude for all of the support that we have received until now, and hope that we can keep the momentum going!
