Outdoor Family Camping

Every year, Outdoor People takes families from London, who have never been camping before, or could not otherwise afford to go on their first ever camping trip.
As a social enterprise we use the profits from our tent hire business and paid camping trips to fund Outdoor Family Camping. So far this year, we have raised enough to take 8 families camping this summer - can you help us take 3 more? We need it soon!
If we can raise £900 we can get a portable shower and enough mats/tents and food to take eleven eligible families for their first camping trip.
We have been overwhelmed by applications for Outdoor Family Camping in August 2018. Out of 20 applications received in the first two days after opening bookings we have identified 11 families (13 adults and 24 children), who are in most need:
Over half of them have never had a holiday before;
Most won‘t be going on another holiday;
None have ever camped with children before.
They would all love to take their families camping... but don’t know how to put up tents, set up roll mats, use gas stoves or have basic first aid.
One applicant said:
“We were thinking about saving to buy some camping equipment over the next year for next year but have no idea where to start. Unfortunately as we are a family of six it has become increasingly difficult to find holidays that we could afford. Camping is the ideal solution we hope as we haven't managed to get away since 2014 due to financial and family health problems.”
After Outdoor Family Camping they will - and they can then borrow kit from us for free.
This will be our fourth and largest camping trip and third to Green Farm Kent. Green Farm is an amazing organisation, which has a dedicated charitable arm, who have invited us to camp in their gorgeous ancient woodland for free - a perfect first camping location.
They also take all the children to help feed the chickens and ducks, to dig up vegetables and make their own pizzas. Vango have brilliantly provided tents and Thermarest have helped us out with lots of mats for families to sleep on. Lots of our customers have donated kit too.

‘I’ll be taking away the little tips and details that we simply didn’t know (how not to freeze to death in a tent at night, or – for toddlers – how not to overheat in a tent during daytime naps!) … my anxieties were largely unfounded. We have raised funding and have the facilities for 8 families this year, including a minibus to get the take families to the site. But we would like to take all 11 families. To take those extra three families we need to get another shower, and mats, sleeping bags and two tents. We are applying to brands we have worked with for subsidised kit, but as yet this is not guaranteed. They have already been generous.
If you can help, by gifting money, or giving us gear or just sharing this request, we would be very grateful - and so will the mums and kids that come to Green Farm this summer.
