Our Streets: a conference to empower PDX queers

Our Streets! Community Safety Day: Empowering Queers and Allies Against Violence is a one-day conference in response to the recent upsurge in violent attacks against queer people living their lives in Portland. Supporting this conference is a direct way that allies can stand together with queers facing the daily threats of living in a culture that wants us silenced and erased.
Funds raised will be used to purchase significant quantities of pepper spray for distribution, provide food for the day, make a donation for operating costs to the space, purchase art materials, and compensate child care providers and ASL interpreters.
Our Streets! will be distributing pepper spray for FREE with a portion of our supplies set aside for BIPOC attendees. Any leftover supplies will be donated to local BIPOC lead organizations for distribution through their networks.
A $50 donation will put pepper spray into the hands of 6 vulnerable community members.
Our Streets will host a variety of workshops including self-defense, situational awareness, bystander intervention, Know Your Rights verbal de-escalation, and identifying risks.
Facilitated community discussions will include:
Youth and Families caucus
Connecting Response Projects
Ways to report hate crimes without involving police
and many more!
We will have many local organizations tabling so we can connect with one another's work.
Care work will include free acupuncture, herbal consults and distribution and emotional support providers.
The space for the conference is being donated by Portland Institute for Contemporary Art.
