Completing Our Family through Adoption

There are times in life when you don't know what you are missing.

18 years ago my wife and I knew exactly what we were missing. We wanted little hands and little feet to kiss. We wanted crying and diapers and teething. We wanted chubby ankles and wrists and restless nights and checking to make sure they were breathing. We wanted hugs, oh how we wanted hugs. We wanted first words and crawling and first steps. We knew exactly what we were missing.

We had been to the doctors and the specialists. We had heard what was what and what wasn't. We had taken the pills, endured the injections, made our private lives public and spent month after month hoping and praying and crying and hugging. We experienced pain we'd wish on no one and we attempted to pick up and press on. We experienced pain and loss and we attempted to pick up and press on. Like determined soldiers we pressed on until eventually we collapsed. We knew exactly what we were missing.

Fate had not been kind to us, so we placed our faith in a new type of fate. We met with attorneys and social workers and had home studies and fingerprinting and phone calls and interviews. We spoke with many hoping to be chosen, seeking a connection, looking for completion. One amazing and selfless person loved her unborn daughter so much she wanted a life she felt she couldn't provide and thought we could. We flew at a moments notice, we laughed together, we cried together, and and we became a family together. Our daughter Emily was born and we had what we were missing.

After nine years of knowing the joy of parenthood something happened. We love our daughter deeply, she is our world and we are hers. We want everything for her. We would give her the world if we could, but there is one thing that we just can't give her ourselves. The events that we don't control in life sometimes lead us to the places we need to be, to show us what we are missing. Through the power of the Internet we were given a glimpse at the life we could be living, of the thing we could give our daughter we never thought we could. We realized we wanted that life and the gifts that it brings. We knew our family wasn't yet complete.

There are times in life when you find out what you were missing even though you didn't know it.

We are starting our second journey into adoption. We are trying to do this without going into debt. We are having fund raisers and other options to reach this goal. We are turning to crowd funding as another way to reach that goal. We hope you can help.
