Olly's Timband Journey

Thank  you for taking the time out to visit our Go Fund Me page.

As some of you may know, Olly had his first appointment today at the Technology in Motion Clinic who specialise in treatment of Plagiocephaly and Brachycephaly (flat head syndrome).

Olly has been diagnosed with severe Brachycephaly with right Plagiocephaly to the point that his head shape will never be "normal".

Olly’s mum was admitted to hospital at 27 weeks with ruptured membranes (waters broke), with no amniotic fluid Olly hung on for a few more weeks giving him a better chance of survival. Being delivered 10 weeks prematurely means that Olly missed out on those vital last few weeks in the womb to give his bones the density they needed. Subsequently Olly’s skull plates were significantly softer than a baby born at full term and this has left him vulnerable to these conditions. Olly spent 3 months in an incubator where the focus was not on his head shape, but his chronic lung disease and unfortunately he now has this flathead syndrome. Despite all the Physiotherapy he has been receiving and us seeing a private Cranial Osteopath, we see no improvement in his head shape.

This condition has also lead to Olly’s facial symmetry being affected and could lead to later problems such as his jaw being misaligned.

We have been offered the use of a corrective helmet which will significantly improve the shape of Olly's skull. Unfortunately these helmets are not funded on the NHS, so we have to fund the treatment ourselves. The total cost of the treatment is £2250, this includes all of Olly’s appointments, scans and reshaping of his helmet as the skull shape improves.

As you can appreciate this is a lot of money to raise and we only have 2 months to raise the full amount. Treatment begins the 16th May, anyone who feels they would like to help, this would be appreciated more than you will know. We want to give our little boy the best start in life and we feel that with all the challenges that he has already faced and overcome, he deserves to have a head the same shape as everyone else.

Thank you again for your continued support. Any additional funds raised will go to the neonatal unit at Wishaw General Hospital where Olly was born and spent the first three months of his life.
