Ohana! Winkler family Visit

Donation protected
This Go Fund Me is set up for Joelynn Winkler and her family to send them home to Hawaii. The funds will be used for five airplane tickets to send Joelynn, her husband Isaac, and three sons to Maui. In a perfect world we would raise $5,000 by the middle of June to send them to Maui at then end of July / beginning of August.

A trip home would mean the world to Joelynn and her family. Joelynn takes a lot of pride in her heritage and would love to have her whole family together. Joelynn has been an important part of the Mount Vernon Community School District as a Paraprofessional and a coach for multiple sports. She also donates a lot of her time to train athletes outside of seasons. Her three sons also attend Mount Vernon schools. Her husband works for Cornell College as a research professor. Below is her story on her family.

Joelynn Winkler was  born on O'ahu, but raised on Maui. Both sides of her families are large. Her dad is 1 out of 10 children,  and  mom is 1 of 13 children.  Her dad's 'ohana or family is from Moloka'i and Maui. Mom's 'ohana are from O'ahu and Maui. The whole family is spread out throughout the eight islands.  When Joelynn is able to go home to visit,  they mostly go to O'ahu and Maui because the trips between islands are to expensive.

The last time Joelynn's 'ohana visited home was in 2010, when her dad passed away.  In fact,  the oldest son Dylan was only 6 years old,  and Jonathan,  the second oldest was about 15 months old.  Today,  our boys are 13, 8 almost 9, and 5 almost 6 years old.  No one, in the family, except Joelynn's mom has been able to meet their youngest son,  Matthew who is going to be 6 years old next Monday.

Joelynn and her husband have sent their oldest son, Dylan, to an exploration program in Hawaii the last 2 years where they teach youth of Hawaiian ancestry to learn Hawaiian language and traditions, arts and crafts,  and dance.   In the one week living in a dorm at Explorations he learned a little about his roots. They also went on many field trips learning about the Hawaiian culture and where he comes from.
