Open Space on the Shetucket River

The Friends of the Shetucket River Valley (FoSRV) urgently needs funds to buy a crucial tract of undeveloped land in rural eastern Connecticut. The land, known as 'The Robinson Property', is 111 acres rich in wildlife, forest, meadows, and clean water. Its future hangs in the balance.
This is a piece of land that should be preserved. It fits into a wildlife corridor that extends across both sides of the largely secluded Shetucket River. Development of this land would interrupt and diminish the importance of this growing wildlife corridor. Located in Connecticut’s ‘Last Green Valley’ adds to its value and the importance of preserving it.
The acreage abuts the existing 500+ acre Sprague Land Preserve. Another 2,300 acres are preserved between both sides of the Shetucket River and within a 10 mile radius of the proposed property. If FoSRV — a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization — can raise the funds to buy the Robinson Property, the land will become part of Sprague Land Preserve.
Much of the necessary funds have already been raised — a grant of $180,000 plus about $10,000 raised from donors and special events. More grants have been requested, but more donors are needed.
Time is running out. The owner of the Robinson Property has put a deadline on its offer to sell the land to FoSRV at a reduced price. If FoSRV fails to raise funds by the deadline, the grant funds will be lost, and the property will be offered to developers.
We need to avoid yet more development of our natural world. We can do this, but it can’t happen without your help. We need your contribution, and it can’t wait. It’s tax deductible as a charitable donation, and its effects will go on for centuries.
