Oaklea's "Our Backyard" Project

Oaklea Middle School has had the same outdoor play equipment for around 40 years, and has been used by many generations. It had become a shadow of its former glory. When a group of parents learned that there were discussions about removing the equipment and no plans on replacing it, we decided to take action.
It is our belief that children need safe play areas where they can challenge themselves to develop physically, mentally and socially. Our Backyard aims to provide a safe and accessible playground so that students and our community regardless of ability or age can play together everyday. And that is just our immediate goal. Overall we would like to transform "Our Backyard" into a beautiful & functional space our community can be proud of.
We've named this project "OUR Backayard" because we believe that this space is not only for our students but our neighbors too, OUR community. We need your help to make this goal a reality.
