Oberstadt's Simple Pleasures, LLC. was started November 1, 2012 by Kenneth and Rebecca Oberstadt. I (Rebecca) had an idea to put my father's ability to make gold, silver, and pewter jewelry and my ability to make beaded jewelry, aromatherapy products, crochet, and cosmetics to work. He wanted to find something I could do where I didn't have a 9-5 job and a boss. He wanted me to be able to work the hours I wanted to work and earn a living. Well, the business is going on 5 years as of 2015 the business now is solely owned by Myself Rebecca. My father turned over ownership to me last year when I bought him out.

I have many things I do and I have friends willing to help as staff and with their own creative ability to help my business thrive. We are looking at a retail space right now and the amount that we need covers first and security in rent, the sign on the door and marquee, the electric deposit and first month's bill. The left over money will cover getting the place painted and wall fixtures installed, lighting, slate boards installed, build out the storage closet, and a separate piercing area. Depending on the state board I might. Be able to do hair in the location as well.

As of right now I am working out of 87.75 square feet at the local flea market and we have a wide customer base and they would like to see me in a larger location with more hours than just Saturday and Sunday from 8 to 4. Most times they cannot get up on the weekend to pick up custom orders and repairs. Also, I sell online My website and I ship 6 days a week and I would love to not have it at my house.

I am involved with a wide variety of things. Things we make out metal varies from beads, copper, tin, aluminum, pewter, silver, fine silver(.999), and aside variety of white and yellow gold(10-24kt) items for the most part. We also made a wide range of beaded items with precious and semi-precious stones. I make aromatherapy products and custom cosmetics.

What I plan to offer once we get a larger retail location is more custom body jewelry, a wide range of necklaces, bracelets, anklets, pendants and earrings. I will also be adding more items to my cosmetics line that is aromatic in nature. I will make my aromatherapy items again from body butters, to bath scrubs and the like. I have a friend who also wants me to sell her items for her so that might be a big plus. I will also have the opportunity to display my own art work from hand drawn and hand painted items but have post cards, books, prints and more of pictures I have taken over the years. I will also be working on handmade crochet socks, slippers, baby outfits and anything yarn related. I am trying to keep everything as handmade as possible.

Risks and challenges:
If we don't raise enough money soon then we may lose the property we are looking to rent and have to find another one.  Thankfully this property has other spaces to rent than the one in the pictures. The money earned will sit in this account until I can rent a location in this building.

Any money earned towards this project will help me stay at the flea market which is costing us $325 a month for a 2 day a week or up to 8 days a month open.  Customer's still want me to keep my booth there, but I would rather spend $375 a month for a building where ALL of my stock fits in and it can be open 7 days a weekend I can put all of my business equipment in the building instead of halving more than half at the house and a quarter at the flea market etc.  Plus, I would be able to do on site repairs instead of having to bring them home to the shop here to repair items that need heat applied.

The costs for this place are:
First Month's Rent $375, Security deposit $375, and Last at $375 for 400 square feet.
Duke Energy's deposit at $250 and their first month's electric cost at $286.
Door sign, markee, and flag out front for $200.
They also have  350 square feet availiable attached to the unit for $300 a month, again with first, last, and security which would be extra space if I needed it.
Costs to finish the unit is roughly $200.  This would cover finishing the storage closet, closing in the powerbox, and installing Slat board and Peg board, plus painting the place and hanging up a curtain on the window for security and blocking the sun in the afternoon.

If I wanted to advertise locally it would cost:
$260 a month for the local coupon book which reaches over 180K people a month.
Printed postal mailing cards cost $125 for 1500 cards.
The fee to do the drop service at the post office also costs $250 to hand deliver the cards.  This is based on the local area.  The postal worker delivers the cards to every address in a certain postal zone.

The total needed just to rent the place and get it started is: $2061.

If I take the extra space the cost would be: $2961.

If I add up the advertising cost it would be: $635.

I don't need the extra space right away but I would like to advertise the business for when I move so that would be: $2696.
