Standing up for my community

As a young person of color who grew up in a community impacted by industrial development,  I have been witnessed to the level of insecurity our communities of color face in the devastation of climate change.
My community is known as a sacrifie zone, frontline and vulnerable community. I have seen and experienced the growth of this to be normal in our communities around the country.


I am Yudith Nieto and for the past 3 years I have committed myself to the struggle for Environmental Justice. As part of joining this movement I have also become a role model for our younger generation. However, that comes with great responsibility and I am humbled to be a part of it. This year I have been selected to be a part of a few delegations going to the United Nations Negotiations on Climate Change along with being part of a Tribunal to stand in solidarity with some of the most vulnerable Indigenous nations in the Ecuadorian Amazon. While attending, not only will I be able to learn the many issues that communities face because of the on-going industrial projects, but the many solutions they are presenting to the International Governments.
I would like to be able to come back and share my experiences with my community so that we learn together how we can help ourselves and also be in solidarity with the many nations of the world to move towards a more sustainable way of life.
I will need your help to be able to survive while I am in France.
