I am raising money for my trip to the United States to participate in the nurturing parenting program training, this training will increase my understanding of parenting education for families in Liberia. When I get back to Liberia I plan to set up a parenting program.. I have been running parenting programs for years with an international NGO and now I am interested in building a sustainable program that is run locally in Liberia. I feel it is important to provide Liberian parents with knowledge and skills to support their children’s development; to prevent common illnesses; and to parent in a violence-free nurturing way. Creating a safe place for Liberian children through nurturing parenting program is my dream. Since the civil war ended, Liberian children are subject to parenting practices that are not always conducive to their healthy development. Parent-child interactions are often not nurturing, socio-emotional stimulation is scarce and harsh discipline high levels of violence in the home are common. The nurturing parent program will help increase positive discipline and reduce harsh or violent parenting practices; increase hygiene practices to promote child health; and increase practices to support and children’s cognitive development and social and emotional skills.  The trip to the US is very expensive and I would really appreciate your help in making my dream a reality.
