Bronson & Joe! Two kind & gentle souls who can survive anything as long as they are together! Bronson & Joe need your help...lets come together as a community & show there is still kindness in this world! We don't need a reason to help people! Let's do this! #NorwalkCares

Joe and his black lab, Bronson (named after Charles Bronson) have been living in Joe's van (donated) for many years. Joe lost his job and a family member offered to house him but he would have to get rid of Bronson. He refused. Man's best friend! Many of you locals may know of him. He lives in his van in the CVS parking lot on Westport Avenue. People in the community have begun to reach out & spoke to the CVS manager and she said sometimes people help him by paying for a room next door at the Econo Lodge. It's 20 degrees out!!! Snowing and FREEZING!! Yesterday many pitched in and got him and Bronson a room for last night & the next two night that follow! This is not enough-we need to do more! In the last 24 hours some have sent food to them from John's Best. Joe can't go to a shelter b/c they won't accept the dog. Let's come together and help Joe. He is truly the nicest and most humbled man, and Bronson is a total sweetheart love bug ! Anything helps! To see the original post and comments that started this, go to the We Are From Norwalk CT page. Alot of background information is there. #NorwalkCares

Are there any updates? I saw that you mentioned Joe relies on Bronson to help keep his blood pressure regulated and that a local Doctor has been helping him, which I would imagine could help qualify him as an service dog (or emotional support dog) Could this Doctor certify Bronson as a service animal? If Bronson is his service animal or emotional support animal then I he would be protected under the ADA.

I could always use some help around my house if he needs work, and he could bring Bronson with him. I love animals, and have a fenced in yard too.

This is my first time creating a GO fund me page! The response has been incredible. I'm so thankful to the Daily Voice for bringing attention to this cause again in the last 24 hours. I'm unsure how to respond to some of the questions below...so I will address them here. I spoke to joe yesterday & he is overwhelmed once again by the outpouring of support from the community. He would love a job opportunity if it were very local as his van can not get him far at all. According to him, the van currently gets 5mpg as it is so heavy and weighed down with all his living supplies. He recently replaced the tires with some of the funds raised and he uses funds for he & Bronson to stay at the econolodge when it is just too cold. He is incredibly humbled and simply taken back by the new funds raised. I noted to human relations about his blood pressure issue and the dog being considered as a therapy dog...they stated that it would take about 90 days to complete a process to get he & Bronson housing. We are roughly a month in. I plan to reconnect with human relations in the city of Norwalk this coming week. But certainly any assistance or knowledge anyone knows of to speed up the process, is greatly encouraged and appreciated. Someone mentioned that the GO fund me states, created by and on behalf of with my name. I'm not sure why that is but my assumption is it is because Joe has no account or email address. An email was needed to set up the wepay account as well as an account. I inquired about opening him an account but he would have had to keep a high balance with no direct deposit and he did not want to do that. I can assure you that he is being given every cent raised for him. I'm happy to share any documentation, Jennifer Hirakawa.

Is Joe able to work? Maybe someone could offer him a job so that he could afford a small apartment that will allow a dog. I applaud him for sticking by his best friend.

Hi everyone! Just sending a quick update on Joe & Bronson! They have received all of the funds raised to date with the exception of $25.00 donated 7 days ago but I will get it to him this week! They are doing well & have met with a few members of human relations & the open door shelter. Sadly, I'm becoming less & less optimistic about housing. I have tried to encourage joe to purchase a new vehicle or look into housing but he is not willing to do so as he feels he & Bronson should stretch the funds raised to keep his vehicle and purchase food & necessities. Additionally, he did do some mechanical things to his van to keep it running as well as purchase new tires! He is in charge of what he chooses to do with the funds, I did not feel comfortable allocating the funds as I believe he is very humbled and chooses to use it the best way he sees fit! Some have questioned why he has not tried to rent an apartment or hotel but I think he is thinking long term & for that, I suppose it makes sense! Continue to check in on him & feel free to follow up with human relations for the city of Norwalk It was acknowledged that he slipped through the cracks & they are very much aware of his situation. With my persuasion he agreed to go through the necessary evaluations but still nothing has been done! It's very frustrating I'm glad we all donated & could give him some hope for survival. He has money, should it get very hot as the summer months come up Continue to check on him I try to bring him a Pepsi & a croissant with steak & cheese from Dunkin when I visit the Westport Ave Dunkin', as that's his favorite! Broad River Animal Hospital continues to collect for him...& BRONSON both food & monetary donations. Additionally, I would imagine he will be in need of summer clothing, size medium! Please drop it directly to him but don't give him stuff he can't use as he can't store it! And he truly is a medium anything larger-he rejects bc it's not comfortable I offered to get him a gift card at Gios Barber shop to get a hair cut & shave-he declined bc it keeps him warm but I'm hoping he will take me up on it for summer! I would also like to get him gift certificates for baths at petco through the summer months! He can always still use donations for gift cards such as food nearby his cvs location, gas & of course monetary! I would prefer moving forward ppl get it in a gift card donation or bring it directly to him as I am so busy the summer months with my kids! All the best!!! Please continue to pray for them & help when u can...let's not forget about these two beautiful souls

Is there more info about job opportunities? What type and is part of the issue that there is no where for Bronson to go if Joe is at work until he finds a place to live? Maybe a local dog boarding or vet could donate daycare if that's the case so Bronson has a safe place to stay.
