We are part of the Rochester Active Sports Club in Rochester, Minnesota and we want to purchase a trail groomer to pack trails for fat biking during the winter.
Winters in Minnesota can be long and cold unless you find something
you love to do outside. For us that is riding our fat bikes through the snow covered trees. To make riding possible it's necessary to groom or pack the snow. Currently we are doing this by snowshoeing and pulling a modified shovel with 40 pounds on it.
It takes 4 to 6 people about one hour to groom 2 miles of trail this way. We have 12 miles of trail in the two parks we are trying to keep groomed.
The machine we are hoping to purchase is called a Best TrackSled, it uses a small 13hp motor to drive a snowmobile track, they typical cost between $3500 and $4500 dollars. Our goal is to raise $5000 to purchase the Best TrackSled and a small trailer to transport it.
Having a trail groomer will allow us to not only groom the trails we already are using. It will also allow us to groom more beginner friendly trails which will help us encourage more people to try fat biking!
Plus make it easier to keep the trails packed for hiking, dog walking, trail running, and snowshoeing.
