After waiting for a long time to get pregnant, a dream finally came true! On 10/29/15, one of my best friends, Theresa and her husband Jeff, welcomed two beautiful little girls into this world, Kaylen Rose and Sadie Lynn. Being a new parent is scary enough, not to mention to twins! Unfortunately, three week old Kaylen was recently admitted to the hospital due to breathing issues and is now facing a battle that no one expected, she will need heart surgery to repair heart defects. As you can imagine this is beyond scary to Theresa and her family as they start this journey. I know their first
priority is getting Kaylen better and having a successful surgery. As we are all aware, with surgery comes medical bills. When it comes to medical expenses they can start to pile up and become very overwhelming. I'm starting this page for my dear friend so that as her daughter and the family are recovering both emotionally and physically from the surgery, that they can have a little less worry about the financial situation and focus on the important things in life... Being amazing parents to these precious little girls! No donation is too small . Any help I'm sure is very much appreciated by the Troutman family. Thank you all for continuing the prayers and donating!

I am writing what I must say is my FAVORITE update on sweet Kaylen Rose! The Troutman family received the best gift ever recently (besides the birth of their daughters of course!) and have an official release date from CHOP for when Kaylen can come back home...Tuesday, May 31st!! The Troutman family will FINALLY be all under one roof after 193 days and a little over 7 months of her stay within a hospital.

Kaylen has touched all of us in more ways than she could ever possibly imagine. The definition of the word 'warrior' is a "brave or experienced soldier or fighter". So in this case I think we can consider Kaylen as the ULTIMATE warrior (and no, not the wrestler ha)! After all, it's very rare to come across a 7 month old weighing less than 13 pounds that has battled THREE open heart surgeries (not to mention other procedures due to complications), gone through the withdrawal process from all of the pain medications she had to be on and so many other obstacles along this 7 month hospital journey and yet this fighter managed to keep smiling through it all and share her adorable giggles with those around her helping her beat the odds.

It's very simple. Going forward in my life when I hear the words: Strength courage, hope, inspiration and perseverance, I will always think of not only Kaylen Rose but the entire Troutman/Cain Family as well. There were so many lessons about life, hope and faith that they taught not just me but all of us as they went through this unexpected journey. We have learned once more that in an instant your life can change forever and miracles do happen, every day. So happy that they are blessed to bring Kaylen home and continue her full recovery together in the comfort of their own home.
I speak for everyone when I say that Kaylen is one person that I have been blessed to know and one person that I will never forget.

One of my favorite quotes... "Your life is your message to the world. Make sure it's inspiring." Kaylen, you have already done just that and you aren't even a one year old yet! Oh the places you will go in your life sweet little girl and the other lives you have yet to impact...the best is yet to come!! Xoxo

Auntie Colleen

Thank you once again to EVERYONE for your support, prayers and help to the Troutman family along this journey. Jeff, Theresa and the girls are so appreciative and thankful beyond words!

It is going on FIVE months now since Kaylen the heart warrior was admitted to the hospital. Thankfully she has remained in stable condition since her latest surgery and continues proving to all of us just how STRONG she truly is! I am happy to report that as long as Kaylen stays on this path and continues to make progress, she may be able to come back home by late spring/early summer. Although there is still a long road up ahead to a full recovery for this precious girl, the fact that the Troutman family now have a potential release date in the near future, is exciting and a huge relief to hear!

Please continue to pray for sweet Kaylen and her family. As you can imagine, the financial burden will continue as Kaylen is still expected to remain in the hospital for a couple of more months. Through all of this, I know that I do not just speak for myself when I say how incredible and inspiring the entire Troutman family has been by holding on to faith, love, hope and maintaining a positive outlook each and every day during this journey. Some people would 'break' from the stress and uncertainty, but the Troutman family did exactly the opposite. The Troutmans' stood TALL and faced a fear head on, never losing faith that this little girl would rise above all of this and be OK. A kind of fear that no parent should ever have to endure and I pray that once they move forward and past all of this, that they will have only positive things come their way. The best is yet to come for this beautiful family and amazing heart warrior!

As always thank you all for your continued support and prayers! Kaylen is a blessing to everyone that knows her and with all of your support and prayers, each of YOU have truly been a blessing to the Troutman family!
Who knew one of the world's STRONGEST girls only weighed 9 lbs? ;)

This is the amount of time 4 month old Kaylen has been in the hospital fighting for her precious life and OVERCOMING the battles that come her way. I can't even imagine how physically exhausted this little angel must be and now unfortunately, another hurdle is up ahead due to a leaking mitral valve from her 2nd surgery. I know I am not the only one that firmly believes Kaylen the heart warrior will remain strong and persevere through this latest obstacle.
No child should have to go through all of this. No family should have to stand by and watch a child go through this. Unfortunately the battles that continue to come Kaylen's way are beyond our control BUT we CAN help. We CAN do something. We can pray. We can donate. We can spread awareness of CHD. We can share with others about Kaylen's amazing story of strength, hope and inspiration. We can continue to support the Troutman family and make sure that they don't ever for a moment feel alone, like they are going through this storm by themselves. We can weather this storm together. Most of all, just like sweet Kaylen, we will NEVER give up, as we know it is just a matter of time before she makes a full recovery and comes back home to be with her family. Until this day comes, whether it's another month, two or even three, "home" will not truly be "home" for the Troutman family.

Please continue to keep this special little girl in your thoughts and prayers. It is appreciated by the Troutman family more than you will ever know.

Kaylen had a special visitor, her twin sister Sadie!

It has been 10 days now since soon-to-be 4 month old Kaylen had her second surgery. I am happy to report that Kaylen continues to impress everyone, including her doctors, on the progress she continues to make!

The second open heart surgery was a huge SUCCESS and Kaylen is on the road to making a full recovery!
During the surgery the blood clot she had had previously, located right outside of her heart, ended up being removed by the heart-lung machine and she has recovered fully from the bacterial pneumonia! The biggest battle Kaylen has right now is the doctors trying to wean her off all of the pain medicine that she has been required to use in order to keep her comfortable since November. I can't even imagine how difficult it must be to witness your child not only recovering from open heart surgery but in addition she is going through withdrawal symptoms as she is being taken off of these drugs. No parent should ever have to witness such a heartbreaking situation but both Theresa and Jeff are remaining strong and taking it all day by day.
You know, I always thought that I knew what ‘being strong’ meant. I, like everyone, have had my share of trials and tribulations during my 31 years of being on this earth. However, seeing my dear friend go through such a difficult situation all the while, keeping a positive attitude and continuing to smile every day even though her heart must be breaking for her little girl… now THAT is STRONG. THAT is INSPIRING.

Through this situation Kaylen has taught us all so many life lessons, without even saying a word. I know that I do not speak just for myself when I say that she is the true definition of strength, beauty, perseverance and resilience. I know that I will never be the same now that I have had the pleasure of meeting you. Sweet Kaylen, you have already made such an amazing impact on this world at the tender age of 4 months. I can’t wait to see you grow up and do BIG things with this second chance of life that you have been blessed with. Get some rest and continue to recover, you have a beautiful twin sister at home waiting to play with you! <3

Kaylen will be remain at CHOP for the next couple of months so please continue to pray for her full recovery. The Troutman family is very appreciative and grateful for the love and support they have received along this journey. It is people like YOU, who are reading and spreading Kaylen's story, that have helped them get through this very difficult time.
May God bless you today and always!

“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”
