Our road from FAP to IVF

Todd has been fighting a battle all of his life. After undergoing over 15 surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation by the time he was 16 years old he was thankful to be done with his battle they thought! He had multiple surgeries to remove desmoid tumors from his back which they were then told was from aggressive fibromatosis. Thinking that everything was over with he moved on with his life and never went back to the doctor again! Todd and Cindy met 8 years ago when she was a freshman and he was a senior in high school. They became best friends who always had a thing for each other. June of 2009 they finally began dating and they both knew that was it for them! January of 2011 Todd went to the doctor after seeing family over the holidays and everyone saying he looked pale and yellow. Todd was admitted to the hospital and after many tests he was referred to MD Anderson Cancer Center for a genetic disease called Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP). At the age of 21 Todd had developed stage 3 colon cancer and would undergo another surgery and chemotherapy. 2 years later Todd had to begin chemotherapy treatments again for desmoid tumors, a much stronger chemo that would lead to infertility. During his chemo Todd proposed to Cindy after 4 years of dating and became husband and wife in March 2014. They knew the chances of having a child naturally were slim but after seeing a fertility specialist they realized they would have to conceive through IVF. IVF costs 13-14,000 per treatment but with Todd's genetic disease it is in their best interest to have the gene mutation taken out in the process which would make IVF cost 18-20,000. This was a lot to take in since they already have thousands in medical bills from his surgeries, chemo and numerous doctor visits. While Todd and Cindy continue to fight his battle with FAP they both look forward to having one normal thing in their lives, a family.
