Nicole’s Volunteering

I am currently a second year paediatric nursing student at edge hill university and I am trying to raise money to help with the funding for my once in a life time elective placement in January 2019. I will be going to Ghana in Africa for 4 weeks volunteering in their local children’s hospital, I will experience new clinical environments, learning how local staff treat advanced conditions with limited resources and high patient volumes. Nursing in Africa will give me the choice to spend time in places like The Reproductive and Child Health Department, run exclusively by nurses. Services that are provided are included Family Planning, Postnatal Care, and Growth Monitoring. I will also get the chance to visit schools and offer immunizations and hygiene talks along with spending a week in the village and attend the village’s healthcare centre, and conduct some community outreach at local primary schools. Over the summer I will be doing a number of different fundraisers to help me with this such as tough mudder, raffles, quiz nights and much more...Any donations would be hugely appreciated to help fund my trip and allow me to have this eye-opening experience.
