NHC Appalachian Trail Shelter

The Nantahala Hiking Club is raising funds for the purchase of materials to replace the Rock Gap shelter and its privy. The shelter was built in the 1950’s. It will be replaced using our current Nantahala design. The Wayah Bald shelter (built in 2007) was the last shelter built by the NHC using this design. The design accommodates 8 hikers with a covered cooking and eating area. The shelter material cost is estimated to be $18,000.00 and the privy material cost is estimated to be $2,500.00. The goal of the fund raiser is to raise $5000.00 to contribute to these projects.
