Once upon a time, there was a little steam engine called 'Newstead'. She was discovered in a convent in Hertfordshire by a group of railway enthusiasts, who intend to restore her. The full story of this remarkable discovery can be seen in this video:

Now that Newstead is safe at her new home, we need to raise the money to pay for the cost of transport. Calkeld Heavy Haulage Limited, who transported Newstead, have been very good to us, giving up three days of their time and cancelling other work in order to ensure that Newstead was transported safely. We want to repay the favour by ensuring they receive the full amount we owe them in a timely fashion. This is where we need your help.

We need to urgently raise £3360 in order to cover the cost of Calkeld's invoice. By giving whatever you can afford, you will be helping us to pay this off so that we can start the task of restoring Newstead to full working order.

If you aren't able to give any money directly, please share our campaign on social media and help us to raise the much needed funds we require by spreading the word.

Thankyou for your help!

UPDATE - 22.06.2016

Work on Newstead's restoration has begun! We have removed all of her fittings and lifted her cab, tank and boiler off for examination. The next task will be to assess the condition of her boiler and any additional restoration work that needs to be carried out.

We've had a very successful couple of weeks and we are now just over £40 from our target! A huge, huge thank you to everyone who's donated and helped us to pay off this bill. We will be keeping you up to date with work on Newstead over the coming weeks and months via our Facebook page and hope you will continue to join us on the exciting chapter in our little lost engine's story.

It's not too late to send us a donation and any further contributions will be gratefully received. If we receive any further donations, we will put any extra monies into the fund for Newstead's restoration. Thank you again for all of your support!

We've had an amazing response to our last update, both on and off of this page! An extra £55 online and a generous donation from an anonymous benefactor have gained us £455! That's a brilliant step towards our final total, but we still need £386 to completely pay off the transport bill.

Please, please, please keep sharing this link with people you know and donate as much or little as you can afford if you haven't done so already.

Thank you again to everyone for all of your help and support. It means a great deal to all of us and our little lost engine!

It's been a while since we updated this fundraising page, but rest assured we have not been standing idle! Behind the scenes, work on the restoration of our little lost engine has begun!

We have also been working hard to raise the remaining funds for the transport costs and thanks to some generous donations from members of the public, we have made a big percentage of the total via GoFundMe, as well as a not inconsiderable sum from donations made in person. We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has helped to raise this money so far and we're please to say we have raised a whopping £2519 towards the costs.

Unfortunately, we are still short of the required total by £841 and the deadline for final payment of the transport bill is fast approaching. We urgently need your help to raise the remaining funds and to pay the bill off once and for all. Once this is done, we will be able to look towards the cost of restoring Newstead to working condition and hopefully getting her pulling trains again. If the bill is not paid off, there is a risk of further costs being incurred, which could delay the restoration by a considerable period of time.

We understand that many of you will not be in a position to give a huge sum of money. But if you are able to afford to give even a small amount, you will be helping us to secure Newstead's future and preserve her for future generations. Even if you cannot give any money yourself, please do share the link to this page everywhere that you can and help us to reach this final target.

£841 is not a huge sum of money in real terms. But at the moment, it means everything to us. Please help us to find it in any way you can!

With thanks
The Newstead Group
